Oct. 28th
Sunderland & District Classic Vehicle Society
End of Season Show,
Engine Museum, Ryhope, SR2 0ND.

Tango-Herald

What's that coming over the hill is it an Outspan, is it an Outspan..............No its Brian's Awesome looking Tango-Herald. Painted in Porsche Orange with satin black where the chrome would normally be.

Brian emailed me last night with the picture and wanted to say a big thanks to Chris Fish and Ken Falcus for help over the weekend.

Brian said the the car is nearly finished, however still quite a few jobs left to do, mainly fiddly stuff, but he is hoping to make the club meeting in September.

Makes you wonder if we will soon have enough convertible Heralds in the club to make up the rainbow colours ROYGBIV

Red - My car

Coming up

We'll be attending the MG Northumbria show out in Corbridge on Sunday 1st July. We have quite a few cars booked in to our area, anyone else turning up with a Triumph should be able to squash in with us if they so wish. Display cars need to be there before 11am when the show opens to the public. It's requested that they stay till 3pm, if you really need to leave before then we have to contact the marshalls to get you out. Here's hoping the weather stays good. Mark

Morpeth Fair reminder - Sunday June 10th

Just a reminder that this Sunday, June 10th is Morpeth Fair.

We have 8 Triumphs from the branch booked into the procession, which kicks off at 11:45am and snakes through the main streets of Morpeth and then on to the riverside display area, known locally as 'The Stanners'.

This might well be the last-ever procession and display, as flood defence works are due to start later this year.

Thanks

Run Out Saturday - Tour around the dales

Hi all
The Saturday run was a big sucess.

Weather was very wet on Friday, dry and sunny on Saturday and very windy on Sunday. Everyone seemed to enjoy the run out and the weather helped show off the best bits of Britain in an excellent light. Ian Longmire's Herald seemed to struggle a little on the very steep hills with a full compliment of passengers and sadly Ian Worthingtons Vitesse split a fuel pipe just as we set off so didn't come on the run.
Had a good singsong on Friday night and some good food over the weekend.

Drive-it-day Treasure Hunt

A brief report from Ken on the recent Drive-it-day Treasure Hunt event he organised, some of it may be tongue-in-cheek

Just a note to say thanks to everyone that braved the weather on sunday. 11 cars, 5 triumphs, 3 mx5s the rest modern cars, except chris fish in his smart car and ian in his tank. But we all had fun more, some than others (Martin).

The run was won by Chris Fish and Pam, a close second place were the Armstrongs, beaten by one point (better luck next year). Andy Boyes took the booby prize but elected to give it away to Alan Clarke.

Matt assisted by Dan Armstrong gave up after the first few miles when they took the wrong turn and headed off towards Carlisle.

Deryick needs to wash his car now but I'm sure Margaret will give him a hand.

Mick and Julie did well not to run into any sheep and Brian and Pat needed to put the roof up so as not to get their hair out of place.

Will Richie Eagle ever get his core plugs sorted out in time for the summer.
Anyway thanks again.

Just an idea but if everyone puts next years run in their diaries, now they may be able to make it to the next drive it day. Only 364 days to go....... Ken

Well done to all those who attended. Especially well done to Brian A, for just failing to win again. Even more well done to Mr Fish who now has the priviledge (?) of doing the next one..... All the best Mark

Treasure Hunt reminder

Hi Folks,

A reminder that The Falcus Treasure Hunt is this coming Sunday the 22nd April.

The start is from the car park at the South end of the bridge over the Tyne in Corbridge.

Be there for 10am, presumably a staggered start.

Take a camera as there are lots of photo opportunities on the way around, assuming you can find the right way.

Enjoy,

Yours

Mark

Cobweb run- Sunday 25 March 2012

Hi All

We hope many of you are able to join the 'Cobweb' tomorrow?

It is unfortunate that it falls on the day the clocks go forward, but why waste an hour catching up on sleep when you could be on a lovely run through some great countryside?

We are meeting at 9.30am at Tesco's car park in Chester le Street, it's right in the middle of the town under the railway viaduct arches.

There will be some notes to follow but we hope to keep together as much as possible.

We'll head out over the Durham dales to Allenheads, Nenthead, Alston, Hartside then dropping down to Talkin Tarn for lunch.  There is a cafe, picnic tables and a nice walk, it was a bit wet underfoot a couple of weeks ago so please bring appropriate footwear.

We look forward to seeing you.

Kind regards

Mark, Rachel & Charlotte

Air Ambulance petition

Everyone knows that the Air Ambulance services in the UK can give life-saving aid, by quickly getting to a casualty and evacuating them to hospital, especially in congested city centres and isolated rural places. What everybody may not know is that all UK Air Ambulances are charity run. They depend on donations from the public to keep flying, and it costs about £2500 an hour to keep a helicopter in the air.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution is the sea equivalent, in that they too depend on donations to keep the Lifeboat Service going. As long ago as the 1970s, the Lifeboats were given the privilege of having their VAT paid back to them, a concession not made to all charities, so the Air Ambulances do not share in it.

This petition asks the UK Gov to return, in the form of grants to Air Ambulance Service providers, all the future VAT which the Treasury collects from them, so that the Air Ambulance Service is in practice exempt from paying VAT in the same way as the Lifeboat Service.

You never know when you, a relative or friend might need one!

March meeting and club run

Good turnout at the March meeting.
3 new people from February returned and we have another owning a Stag.
The area calendars disappeared into Royal Mail so I didn't have them for the meeting.
Have them now though.

Reminder of our first run of the year.
Start at 09:30 from the Tesco car park in the centre of Chester-Le-Street

The run is out west via scenic and interesting roads. Stop at Talkin Tarn for refreshments etc. Then a run back on the north side of the A69. Total mileage is around 140, but it's not compulsory to do the whole thing, drop off anytime or make your own return route. We just ask you let everyone else know you're going your own way so we don't come looking for you.

Do you have recovery cover?

I was driving home last night on the A1231, when I spotted a sad looking red Triumph Spitfire 1500 stopped with its bonnet up. I went up one junction and came back to see if there was anything I could do. It turned out that spitfire that it was experiencing fuel problems and the owner had done as much as he could as the battery was going flat with the repeated attempts to start, he was now waiting for the AA. The owner was pleased that someone had stopped, and said I was the first person to stop in the hour and half that he had been there.
Although he was waiting for the AA, sadly he had to trek from where his car was in search of someone with a phone, so that he could ring the AA and join to try and get them to help him.
So do you have recovery cover, I know mine is included in with my insurance? Do you go take a phone with you when you go out in the Triumph?
Happy motoring

Aaron
